Visa & Entry Rules for Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan Visa Requirements for Tourists
Turkmenistan visa arrangements usually begin with an approved Letter of Invitation for foreign tourists. Travelers should prepare the required documents, check passport validity, and confirm their entry point before departure.
Most foreign visitors need a tourist visa to enter Turkmenistan. The process begins with an official Letter of Invitation, commonly called an LOI.
The invitation must be approved before your journey. Once it is ready, you can travel to Turkmenistan and receive your visa upon arrival at the approved point of entry.
Arrange Your Invitation
To prepare an invitation letter for travel to Turkmenistan, we will need the following information and documents.
A Turkmenistan visa is usually connected with an approved travel itinerary and Letter of Invitation. The invitation should be prepared before travel so that the visa can be issued at the approved airport, border crossing, or consular point.
Processing Time
The standard processing time for an invitation letter is usually approximately 10–12 business days after all required documents have been received.
In some cases, expedited processing may be possible, taking approximately 5–7 business days, subject to availability at the time of submission.
Required Documents
To begin the process, we will need:
- Passport copy — a clear photo or scan of the passport bio-data page. All details must be clearly visible, and the corners of the passport page must not be cropped.
- Photograph — a color photograph on a white background, suitable for a visa or passport application.
- Completed application form — please complete all fields as carefully and accurately as possible.
- Travel details — exact travel dates, itinerary, point of entry into Turkmenistan, and point of exit from Turkmenistan.
Check Your Passport
Your passport should remain valid for at least six months after the end of your trip and have enough empty pages for the visa and entry stamps.
Before travelling, check that your name, passport number, and travel dates are correct on the invitation.
Take the Invitation with You
Print the approved invitation and keep it in your hand luggage. It is also useful to save a digital copy on your phone.
At the border, you may be asked to present:
- Your passport
- The approved Letter of Invitation
- Your accommodation and travel details
- Cash for the visa fee in US dollars
Receive Your Visa on Arrival
At the approved airport or border checkpoint, present your passport and invitation to the immigration officers.
Your documents will be checked, the visa fee will be collected, and the visa will be placed in your passport. The invitation gives you permission to obtain the visa, but it does not replace the visa itself.
Your point of entry should match the route shown in the invitation.
After Entry
Turkmenistan entry rules may include passport checks, visa verification, migration procedures, and confirmation of travel details. Travelers should keep printed and digital copies of important documents available during the journey.
Before leaving the border area, check the visa dates and entry stamp. Make sure they cover your full stay.
