The Chinese year turns on two Golden Weeks — the October one around National Day and the February one around Spring Festival. The State Council confirms the official schedule of days off in late autumn, so the 2027 dates here are indicative.
The calendar: September 2026 – August 2027
September 2026
- 25–27 SeptemberMid-Autumn Festival●
The fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, a festival of harvest and the full moon. Three days off and the first of two autumn travel peaks.
October 2026
- 1–7 OctoberNational Day Golden Week●
The anniversary of the founding of the PRC in 1949. Seven consecutive days — the biggest outbound travel window in the Chinese year. Flights and hotels are booked months ahead.
January 2027
- 1 JanuaryNew Year’s Day
The solar New Year, a single day off.
February 2027
- 6 FebruarySpring Festival●
Chinese New Year 2027 falls on 6 February. The State Council publishes the official schedule of days off towards the end of 2026, but it is traditionally a week or more — the largest human migration on earth.
April 2027
- 5 AprilQingming Festival
The tomb-sweeping day of remembrance for ancestors. Usually three days off.
May 2027
- 1 MayLabour Day●
May Day. In recent years China has stretched it to five days by working the adjacent weekends — the second-largest travel window of the year.
June 2027
- 9 JuneDragon Boat Festival
Duanwu, the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Dragon boat races and zongzi wrapped in bamboo leaves.
